Creating Careers with Coffee

But first, we need a location. Flava will be crowdfunding January 18 - February 28, 2021 on the IFundWomen platform. We are aiming to raise $50,000 to take Flava from concept to reality.

Flava Café is a manifestation of radical imagination intentionally created by a Black woman for Black girls, trans and gender expansive youth to reimagine possibilities and invest in themselves. Flava Café is more than a coffee shop or a job - every product sold, and service offered develops deeper ties to the local community, creates space for Black joy, increases skills, and builds a strong sense of identity. When intentional space is created for these things youth and community are empowered to live and lead authentically and boldly.

We are launching this campaign because the people have spoken and therefore we must deliver. Flava Café exists to cultivate careers for young womxn and nonconforming and nonbinary individuals who live at the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and ability while creating a supportive community in a local coffeehouse in the Twin Cities, Minnesota. Funds from this campaign will take Flava Café from concept to reality. Yes, we’re raising money for a building, but as you can tell...it’s going to be so much more:

  • Creating a beautiful, welcoming place that embodies and celebrates Black culture

  • Hiring and partnering with local Black designers and artists

  • Making a literal Safe Room where young womxn can reflect, debrief, and build sibling-hood

At Flava we are empowering black girls, and gender expansive youth to live intentionally and abundantly. Flava cafe’ invests in young womxn by cultivating a culture of community that centers equity, authenticity and sustainability. We are eliminating disparities one latte at a time.

“[I] would love to support a mission- driven, black- owned and community-based shop”.
